[follow friday] and lunch with an artist
I just lost my entire post. This was one of the first times I decided to type directly into the DW instead of writing my post on Word, and I lost it. Instead of just going back to "Post Entry" I clicked the back button, which erased my previous saved draft. Awesome, awesome, awesome. So now I'm listening to Rainy Mood and taking deep breaths, slowly retyping all that disappeared into the vast depths of cyber space.

Like I was saying, before my post was rudely lost...

I've always wanted to participate in Follow Friday since I came to DW, but it's kind of difficult for me to do so since I'm not following anyone, really. So instead, have a list of some of the communities I'll definitely be joining when I stop being lazy and/or shy.
[community profile] dailyprompt and [community profile] daily_prompt are both prompt-based writing communities that encourage both original and fanbased writing. Not much to say here, but for people as lazy (and rusty) as I am, a little dose of daily inspiration is always appreciated.

[community profile] storycubes is a prompt community based on Story Cubes, which are a set of nine six-sided cubes that have a different picture on each face. All you have to do is ask for a roll and tada, you've got yourself nine prompts! It's probably one of the more original prompt-based communities I've seen so far on DW.

[community profile] stayintheroom is another prompt-based community, but this one is encouraging original writing, which I think is totally awesome. (We need more original writing comms!) This community posts general prompts on Mondays and character based prompts on Fridays, and you can always go back and post on older prompts, if you wish!

[community profile] inkstains is like Brigit's Flame on LJ, but is focused more about the writing, which is awesome. Basically, this is a monthly challenge community. At the start of each month, you can sign up for the challenge, and then prompts will be posted after a week or two. Members vote for their favorite pieces of fiction, and half the writers move on. This continues until one writer stands at the top as the winner!

I was actually part of Brigit's Flame on LJ, but I kind of just disappeared, so I've been anxious as to whether or not I should return. I decided that I definitely will make an appearance here, since everyone was so kind to me on BF, and plus, they're really good at getting lazy procrastinators like me writing! The community is active, fun, and dedicated, so I give this my double recommendation!

[community profile] fic_promptly is a fandom community based on requesting and filling prompts. I know, I'm actually interested in a fandom community for once, huh? What intrigues me about this place is the idea - giving and getting, filling and receiving... I really like the idea! There's a huge variety of different people who are interested in different fandoms, so even someone like me who's out of the loop when it comes to just about everything can find something to write about. They're really organized when it comes to archiving lonely prompts that still needs fills too, so if you're ever itching to write something and don't know what to focus on, this is a pretty interesting place to stop by.

[community profile] origfic_bingo GRRRAAWH, I'm so mad that I just found out about this place recently, because let me tell you, this place looks awesome. Basically, once you ask for a bingo card, they'll randomly draw prompts from their database and give you a bingo card full of writing prompts! You can fill one or two line, or even do a blackout, it's totally up to you! However, you can only sign up for cards on the beginning of the month... Man, I can't want 'till November!

Today was the last day of spirit week at my school, and let me tell you, I've never seen a group of kids so amped up for the homecoming game! So many people were dressed up in red and white, with facepaint smeared on their faces, talking about the homecoming game and the dance that was to follow. It was a little strange for me to see such spirit - my old school definitely didn't give a damn about homecoming, hell "homecoming" was something no one ever talked about before. I've had a year to get adjusted to this school, I know, but it's just not working out.

In which Kiri talks about her lack of school spirit )

It's not like this school is full of bad people or anything, they're all actually really nice, nicer than my old school.

There's this one girl in my Latin class that sits in front of me; she has long brown hair and has the prettiest smile - she's what I call the humble beauty. Beautiful, yes, but not boastful. She's quiet and keeps to herself, but has a small, modest laugh that reminds me of girls like Heidi and Anne of Green Gables - she is so down to earth, it's inspiring.

In Latin, we're making mosaics, but not out of tile, but of magazine squares, and everyone in class is done except for her. Instead of using a primitive glue stick, she using rubber glue, and instead of blindly cutting out magazine squares, all of her squares are perfectly measured identical. She uses a set of tweezer to pick up each square and places it down neatly, applying a small dab of rubber glue at its back, placing it down on paper, and starting up again. We all rushed with ours - we all wanted ours done and over with - but she revels in the art, she basks in it. She is beautiful.

At lunch, I sat at my usual spot by myself, and as I was eating, she came out of nowhere, materialized from thin air, and sat down with me, greeting me, saying hello - she knew my name. I was lost for words for a minute, but then asked her if she was done with her mosaic. She shook her head no and laughed, and said that it'll probably take her all weekend. The rest of the lunch was mostly silent, but that was fine, because when lunch was over, I told her to have a good weekend, and she smiled and laughed again, and told me to have a good one as well.

People like her make me want to write.

I've decided that I will go ahead and make my "coffee shop writer's prompt" community, but it will take time. And I want to get my feet wet in other communities first, to see how one is run, to connect with others, and obviously, to write! Whoever heard of someone running a community who hasn't written a proper piece in forever?

Not I, said the Kiri. Not I.
