It starts out with our hero, Takuto, laying half dead on a beach after swimming all the way from the main land to an island where he'll be attending school. Yes, you heard me right, he SWIMS. Apparently, he missed the boat and decided to do what every logical person would do... swim there! He's found by two passerby, Wako and Sugata, who save his crazy arse and take him back to their house so he can recover.
Later, we learn that this island is protected by a variety of Shrine Maidens, who are being captured one by one by a group called Glittering Crux (or Glittering Star... it's never really made clear) who all pilot mechas and are trying to "break" all of the Shrine Maiden's "seals" so that their mechas ("Cybodies") can all advance to the next level. We find that Takuto can also pilot a Cybody, one of the biggest, baddest cybodies around, Tauburn. When Takuto summons his Cybody he transforms into... Well, see for yourself!
Oh my god. What do you mean, it's not awesome? Takuto may seem to be your typical "cool guy" character stereotype... and maybe he is, but that's what you love about him! He's ridiculously cool, and everyone loves him, but for good reason: because he's nice. Holy crap! Someone in an anime actually being adored for good reason?! He's dorky and hilarious and isn't without his own catchphrase - (whenever he's in a bind he has a habit of saying, "It's a piiiinch!" and overused to word "fabulous" in the first episode, although he hasn't said it much since then).
Whenever a battle starts, the North Maiden begins to sing, and it's an insanely beautiful song called "Monochrome" that I can't find a good version of to show you because the OST hasn't come out yet. But, if you don't mind background sound effects from the anime, here you are. It's an astounding sound that really sticks in your head after a few episodes, and guh, I love it!

There's also Wako and Sugata - Wako, at first, seems to be that sterotypical "Girl" of most anime - but that's mainly because we don't know much about her. Her dream is to become a singer in Tokyo, but because she's a Shrine Maiden, she is not permitted to leave the island. As for Sugata, he pilots the King Cybody, which he can't even summon (or "apprivoise" as they call it) because it's power is so strong that it sends its pilot into an endless sleep, which none of the King Cybody's pilots have ever awakened from.
He's also engaged to Wako (it's a tradition in his family - he must marry a Maiden) but Wako also has feelings for Takuto. Their love triangle is probably one of the most believable I've seen in a while. Usually love triangles make me really hate the girl for being wishy washy instead of just choosing one and not leading on the other, but in this case, you can really relate to Wako.
Sugata has been with her since childhood, and they've forged this bond together ever since they were kids, knowing that they both could never leave the island, that they both would, in turn, always have each other. Now here comes Takuto, who seems fearless and won't let anything, even invisible rules made by their island's traditions, stand in his way of what he wants. She wants to be as strong as he is and admires that sort of courage. But how far can she allow that admiration to go?

But I'm really here to talk about the latest episode - episode six. Wako asks Takuto out on a date! At first I'm thinking, "Wow, is she finally going to choose!" I mean, I don't really ship Wako/Takuto or Wako/Sugata, I just want all of them to be happy, goddamnit. But I have to admit, they're really cute together, I mean look at 'em! (And Takuto has no sense of fashion...)

Wako later explains to Takuto about Sugata, who pilots the King Cybody. Again, he can't apprivoise it, because if he does, he'll fall into a coma. Pretty useless power, huh? Hey, you, you're the strongest of us all! But you can't fight, because if you do, you'll die. Or just sleep for a really long time, same difference really... Wako also tells us that today's Sugata's birthday, and she used him to go shopping for a present for Sugata. She explains that Sugata hates his birthday because five years ago on his birthday was when he learned that he could never leave the island. She seems genuinely troubled by this, but Takuto doesn't seem to mind and offers to go with her to deliver the present. Sugata's not answering the door, however (his maid does) so Takuto suggests that Wako sing for him outside of his room instead. Granted, Takuto has his own reasons for asking Wako to sing.

"This is a present to Sugata from me. And a present to myself as well..."
We then cut to Glittering Crux's headquarters. In every episode, we see a girl locked up in a cage - the North Maiden, whose seal has been broken by Glittering Crux, and is being imprisoned by the Head of the organization. The girl has a name, but fanon calls her "Fish Girl." This is because the Head has problems sleeping, and is always seen on that red velvet bed, trying to sleep, while the Maiden tells him a story about a boy name Sam and his adventures fighting the Squid Emperor. Despite being a captive, she is very enthusiastic about her job; Sam's story continues in every episode, and the portions told usually foreshadow what events are to come.

"Thank you, Sam. Now I can finally sleep and never awaken."
These two have a very strange relationship. She doesn't seem to mind being a captive (or just really plays her role well) and he seems to genuinely enjoy her company. He's never bored by her story, no matter how the plot seems to twist and turn. I really love these two, I just wish I knew their names!

Cut back to Wako and Takuto. Out of nowhere, a Mermaidoll starts acting - one of Undine's lackeys that she can control via her mind. Takuto, who is used to fighting with the Cybody, panics, but remembers that it's his duty to protect Wako. Takuto, along with Sugata's [battle]maids, manage to fend off the lone Mermaidoll, but Undine's mind goes out of control and produces an unfathomable amount of dolls. Takuto is easily overpowered, and Wako is put under a death grip by the Mermaidoll hoards. The only one left to protect her is Sugata, who can only battle using the King Cybody. There is no other option. In order to save Wako - in order to save the island, it must be done.

Goddamnit, Sugata, you better wake up! Right when Wako gets done explaining how he'll never wake up if he summons it... he summons it. Why? Why! Ugh! Now my love triangle has been vaporized... But I know he'll wake up, because he's Sugata and he's too cool to be sleeping around! Ugh, why, why, why? I'm super pissed but I'm super excited for the next episode, because I know Takuto's not gonna take this lying down. Argh, but seriously, this anime gets a 5/5 so far from me. Wako, Sugata, Takuto, Fish Girl and Glittering Crux's Head... I love them all!
I wonder if I should do posts like this more often? It's rare when anime gets me this excited, but when it does, I can't help myself!
